I still have plenty to write about the preparation part of a missions trip. But I have been reading about King Rehoboam (2 Chronicles) and one specific sentence has jumped out at me and stuck. It got me to re-evaluate my own life and where I am at and why I do what I do. And I'd like to share my thoughts because now is as good a time as any to pause and ponder:
2 Chronicles 12:14 "He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord."
... he did not SET HIS HEART ON SEEKING THE LORD.
Sometimes, I think, we can so err and latch onto the notion of grace* that we often deliberately ignore the law of nature (set in place by God, before you think I'm a 'Mother Nature freak' *wink*): for every action, there is a reaction. It is like what we moms do when our kids were naughty because they ate all the biscuits after we said they should not and now they come and apologize. We forgive them, but it does not take away their stomach ache.
When (not if) we do not set our hearts on seeking God, [Set- determination, endurance. Seeking- active, ongoing doing.] then we end up doing all sorts of evil.
You won't lose your salvation if you are saved... but there are consequences to a life lived without 'setting and seeking'. A heart set on seeking God is by far better. Sure, life will still give you lemons... but you will have the syrup to turn it into lemonade (as the famous saying goes *smile*).
Is my heart SET on SEEKING God?
Is it a habit; a way of life; my default setting to run to God, to seek His counsel, to wait for His answer?
May my lifesong sing of You, Jesus.
May the soundtrack of my life be your melody, Oh Lord.
Extra note:
If you do not know Jesus as your personal saviour, then I suggest you speak to someone that you know has a personal relationship with Jesus. There is also a beautiful scripture that says "seek and you shall find." This might sound a bit insane but cry out to Jesus in your heart to reveal Himself to you and He will do it. Find a Bible- there are plenty available for free in electronic format- and start reading from Mark. (ESV or NIV are great translations). Jesus is the very best thing that has happened to me. Without His presence, I am bent on messing up in malicious mean ways, no matter how hard I try to do the right thing- might 'tis well call me Maleficent, the wicked evil queen mother. And without Him, life pretty much loses all meaning, purpose and JOY. Where Jesus is, there is my happy place.
