Sipping Margaritas at the Marriage Seminar

We recently attended a marriage course.

Yes, a marriage course.

No, our marriage is not in neglect. Our marriage is pretty sweet at the moment. And one of the reasons for that is the fact that we both realize the importance of our relationship and we both also realize that we can always learn and grow- a marriage course is a relational investment!

My husband likes to compare a marriage to owning a car (him being a man and all that *wink*), we service our cars at regular intervals to prevent breakdowns. Yet, often, with our marriages, we only go for counseling or attend courses when the breakdown has already happened!

And you might think: B-O-R-I-N-G but this course was far from it! We laughed, at all the real life examples (because we can relate) and we enjoyed sipping virgin margaritas and eating creamy cheesecake dessert with berry coulis and the following day, enjoyed Hawaiian burgers, slap chips and refreshing mango and lime sorbet. And the decor team did a pretty spectacular job at recreating a tropical island scene with plenty of bougainvillea flowers, pineapples and delicious monster leaves. (Did I mention, large palm trees!?!!)

Boy, did we laugh. Laughter really is great medicine. And it is good to be able to laugh at ourselves and laugh at all the mistakes we make in marriage. Laughing with my man is something I need to do more.

When was the last time you laughed with your husband? Or has the worries of life choked laughter from your lives...

Don't allow the issues of life to replace the love of your life.

Make time to be together.

And I know how hard it can be as a mom to try and arrange time together - rather ask for world peace, it's easier :) - but even something as simple as taking a leisurely bubble bath together can work wonders!

Speaking of bubble baths: one of the funny suggestions made by the presenter of the course, was to have discussions in the bath because if you get angry, then walking away from the conversation will be much harder since you will be wet and naked. Now, if that idea does not make you smile...
