When the Ordinary becomes Extraordinary

These friends and lovely ladies from our church have learned not to take themselves too seriously. After a long tough year, can we still laugh at ourselves? Can we celebrate how our ordinary, messy lives become extraordinary in the hands of a perfect God? Relax, smile, God's got this!

God uses our ordinary lives as His message.

So often we believe wrongfully that we need to do something amazing or out of the ordinary for our lives to count for God. But the truth is that God uses our ordinary lives as His message, and that is what makes it miraculous.

It is far more miraculous to take something ordinary and make it fit into the purposes of God, then to take something extraordinary. Because extraordinary already has its own merit.

This is what blows my mind about this life journey with Jesus.

We see in Isaiah chapter 8 that the prophet Isaiah and his wife conceived a child. This is a very normal and ordinary thing (of course. Falling pregnant is not a foreign concept). Yet, God specifically uses the birth of this child to send a message to the nations as explained in the chapter.

At the end of chapter 8, in verse 18, he says 'I and the children the Lord has given me, serve as signs'. Wow!

We, too, are the message of Christ to the World. I love that. Our households get to serve others through simply being who we are. When living humbly and faithfully, authentic and 'smitten silly' for Jesus: ordinary servants become His extraordinary signs!

And this is the miraculous. This is the prophetic. And this is life by the Spirit of God.
