Pick of the week

Through the LOO king Glass…

Toddlers have a way to hone our people skills, especially the mastered art (self thought, of course) of self preservation in public. Otherwise known as the “what would people think (WWPT)”- syndrome (you can’t treat this with a simple WWJD armband, “What Would Jesus Do?”)

Yesterday, while lounging on the beach, my daughter yelled that she needed to go to the bathroom urgently. I grabbed her and ran toward the shore, realizing that the restrooms are half a mile away and we’ll never make it in time. Heading toward the crashing waves, she shrieked and it dawned on me that the only viable option is for her to go right there, on the beach.

Yep, in front of everyone: not pretty. I stood, looking on in shades of deep red, as my daughter went to the very public toilet… trying hard to keep my poise. All the while thinking, “this is so embarrassing, oh my gosh, what are the people thinking? Probably that this is so low class, perhaps that I’m a bad mother for not taking her to a real restroom…” A clear sign that my mind was polluted by the WWPT syndrome; poisoned by pride. And this episode- this light adversity (as I experienced it) - was the cure.

So bring on those awkward moments!

Shaping me to become meeker, less self aware and plainly a better but humble mom- less of me, more of Him! Done playing for the people’s party, next time, I’m gonna be the public loo queen :)
