A woman was caught in the act of adultery.
It was not speculation. She was caught. Red-handed. She was found in bed with someone other than her husband.
And her sin was punishable by death. According to law and custom. (John 8:1-11)
But as she stood before Jesus, He said to the crowds "he who is without sin, cast the first stone".
Slowly everyone left.
The dust settled. The town square was silent.
But Jesus remained.
Jesus remained.
Not just because He was the only one without sin. Not because He was the only one that could truly condemn her to death.
But as He looked at her and she answered Him as "Lord" - placing her hope and trust in Him - Jesus said "neither do I condemn you".
Neither do I condemn you
She didn't deserve to be set free from her punishment. But Jesus set her free because He took her punishment upon Himself.
Jesus remained because He was the only one that could save her.
John 3:17 God did not send His son Jesus to condemn the world, but to save it through Him.
Perhaps you have messed up. Perhaps you are in the middle of the greatest mess of your life. When you cry out "Lord!", "Jesus!"
He will answer you: "neither do I condemn you".
How do I know?
Because I was caught out. I could've continued living a life of ignorance, my sins the lie I choose to omit. But I would only be fooling myself. The truth cannot be covered up by keeping busy; through the accumulation of trinkets nor by the striving to live a perfect life. I faced The Truth.
And, despite all my sins, He chose to show mercy and grace.
He saved a wretch like me and set me free.
And whomever Christ sets free, is free indeed!
Jesus continued talking to the woman and said to her: "go, and sin no more"
Jesus saves us and He sets us free from the bondage and burdens of our sins.

We will all stand before Jesus. Today. And then, on that day...
Today, He is standing in front of you. Not to condemn you, but to bring you life. What will your response be?
