We all receive gifts at some moment in our lives. We love receiving gifts! But once in a while, we receive something better than just a gift…we receive a little some-part of someone. Like the HP sauce that my close friend bought when we went for dinner at their place, just because she remembered how I enjoyed it at a breakfast we had together.Or like the pretty pearl earrings my brother’s wife made me, that must’ve cost her much much more than what she ever needed to spend on me- I haven’t even met her! Like the flowers from a friend who need them more than you. Like the coolest orange shoes bought for my son and the dearest little dress bought for my daughter on a recent trip outside the country, though we are not even family.
Through the cross we have received not only a some-part but the whole! Through
accepting Jesus and the greatest gift He could ever give- His life for our sins-
we have received not only eternal LIFE but HIM! Complete. In entirety. Absolute! The Holy Spirit is not a some-part of Christ and the Father, but the Whole! Through Him we have received all of Christ and all of the Father!
Last week, I lost one of my precious pearl earrings at a coffee shop and only
realized it that evening when we as a family were on our way to visit friends. I
was upset and frantic and I think perhaps a little mean to my husband who
deserved none of my steaming- and searing- and almost swearing- outburst.
Calling the coffee shop, I desperately explained my dire situation and begged
them to even take a metal detector to find the little earring if they need to.
But an hour later, they called without hope. I was devastated and my heart
broken…
How much do we value the greatest gift of all? How much do we treasure the Gift Giver? Would you leave it all to seek Him? How much does my heart break when I feel like I am slipping from the love of my life? Is Christ truly the Pearl of great Prize in my life?
Jer 29:13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Mat 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
(ps. they called later to say they have found my earring! Oh, and i aplogised to my husband for being so foolish over something that is really so worthless :) Much love, liezl)
